Trends in Medical and Cosmetic Dermatology

Dermatology is the medical specialty focused on the diagnosis and treatment of skin diseases and disorders. Skin is the largest organ in the human body; it protects the organs of the body. Anything that irritates, inflames the skin can cause symptoms such as burning, itching, redness and swelling. Common skin conditions include warts, ringworm, impetigo, vitiligo, psoriasis. A dermatologist identifies, diagnose and treat different diseases like eczema, acne, psoriasis, skin cancer and nail infections. They also perform elective and aesthetic procedures such as laser treatments, anti-aging, collagen injections, biopsies, chemical peels, cryotherapy, botox injections, hair removal and restoration, these procedures improve the appearance of patient’s skin, hair and nails. Different categories of dermatology include cosmetic dermatology, medical dermatology, surgical dermatology, immunodermatology, pediatric dermatology and dermopathology.

In the last few years non-invasive cosmetic surgery and dermatology have gained importance. A survey conducted by the American Society for Dermatological Surgery (ASDS) on non-invasive cosmetic procedures showed that 52% prefer to use non-invasive techniques to refresh their appearance. The expanding age groups is the biggest trend that will aid the dermatology and cosmetic industries.
There is a lot of research work going on in cosmetic surgery. Tests are being conducted by several organizations to create and provide Botox in a gel formulation. Clinical trials will begin by the end of this year, or early 2016.Various trends may lead to greater knowledge and understanding of cosmetics and dermatology.
